Serving Sun City Hilton Head
Staying Connected: “It’s the Neighborly Thing to Do”
Staying Connected is a non-for-profit 501(3)(c) organization whose volunteers, all Sun City Hilton Head residents, provide assistance to their neighbors within the community’s gates. Commonly referred to as a “Village”, Staying Connected is a vehicle for neighbors to help neighbors remain in their homes as long as it is safe to do so.
Our Mission: “Staying Connected is committed to assist Sun City Hilton
Head residents to remain engaged in our active adult community by
providing a helping hand and access to information, support and
services which allow them to address life’s challenges.”
Our Resource Hub is the center of the organization’s operations. It is centrally located in the Yemassee Craft Center and is available to all Sun City residents Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Residents who are facing life’s challenges can call or visit the Hub where volunteers are ready to help them understand what LowCountry agencies, support groups and service providers are available to assist them. The Hub provides information sheets, brochures, and other aids to help residents navigate through life’s challenges.
Our Success: Staying Connected continues to make a huge difference in the lives of its members and volunteers. Today, we support 375 households and nearly 500 Sun City residents through the dedication of more than 350 resident volunteers. Our volunteers drive nearly 2.6 times around the earth and post nearly 18,000 hours helping their neighbors each year. Volunteers provide nearly 3,000 rides, 1,000 home visits, 500 small maintenance tasks and make nearly 6,000 daily reassuring calls annually. Member feedback makes it all worthwhile: “Your services are an answer to my prayers. Many, many thanks to your wonderful caring group”; “The home visits are very important to me because I live alone; and the visitors are company.” And volunteers continue to say “I can’t tell you how much volunteering has changed my life; I get so much more from the members I help than I give to them. I’m proud, and thankful to contribute my time to help my neighbors!”
